Cabaret du Néant

The Cabaret du Néant is marked by a facade draped in black velvet and adorned with skeletal figures. Inside this nineteenth century establishment, patrons drank from coffin-shaped tables while monks performed mock funerals for the living. The owner, Roger, designed the space to confront customers with their own mortality through elaborate stage illusions, including a trick where a guest seemingly dissolved into a skeleton before their own eyes. It operated as a theater of death until nineteen thirteen, when it closed its doors forever.
