Wilhelmsplatz

Wilhelmsplatz features a central fountain surrounded by linden trees and late nineteenth-century townhouses. It sits as the heart of the Weststadt neighborhood, originally designed to accommodate the city's rapid expansion during the eighteen eighties. While neighbors enjoy the quiet shade today, the square once served as a primary transit point for Heidelberg's streetcars. The tracks were pulled up in the nineteen seventies, leaving the space to the local market stalls and the stone basin that has occupied the center since nineteen thirteen.
