Jesuitenkirche

The Jesuitenkirche dominates the Heidelberg skyline with its massive, pale stone facade and a towering clock tower that rises high above the surrounding rooftops. Construction began in seventeen twelve to serve as the spiritual heart for the local Jesuit order, who arrived in the city to lead a counter-reformation effort. The interior is decorated with striking white stucco, intended to overwhelm visitors with its brilliance. Elector Johann Wilhelm paid for the altar, while his wife, Anna Maria Luisa de Medici, donated sacred relics.
