Löwenbrunnen

historic

The Löwenbrunnen features a sandstone lion standing atop a tall, ornate column in the center of the Kornmarkt. It holds a coat of arms between its front paws, marking the transition point between the town and the castle above. Elector Karl Philipp commissioned the fountain in seventeen eighteen to provide water for local residents. The sculpture remains a centerpiece of the square, though the original stone lion eventually weathered away and required replacement by a newer version in the late nineteenth century.
