Neckarmünzplatz

The Neckarmünzplatz sits between the city walls and the river with a surface paved in wide, flat stones that transition from a busy thoroughfare into an open square. Before the nineteen fifties, this space functioned as the main river harbor for Heidelberg. Merchants hauled barrels of wine and loads of stone directly from boats onto the docks here. Today, the square serves as the primary gateway for river cruise ships, docking exactly where the town merchants once unloaded their heavy cargo.
