Universitätsplatz

Universitätsplatz features a wide, cobblestone expanse framed by the long, yellow facade of the Old University. It serves as the primary meeting point for Heidelberg University, which has occupied this site since the late eighteenth century. In nineteen thirty-three, the square hosted a infamous book burning, where Nazi students threw literature by Jewish and anti-fascist authors into a bonfire. A stone plaque now rests near the center of the square to mark that event, quietly set into the ground beneathfoot.
