House for giant

The house at Hauptstrasse fifty-two stands out for its narrow, three-story facade squeezed between much wider buildings. It wears a painted sign of a giant holding a club, a relic from seventeen oh five when the building functioned as an inn. Back then, soldiers and travelers crowded into the cramped rooms to drink wine. Later, the writer Victor Hugo stayed here during his visits to Heidelberg. He spent his time sketching the castle ruins while locals puzzled over the silent, observant guest.
