Fischergasse

Fischergasse runs narrow and quiet, tucked between the main thoroughfare and the riverbank. Its half-timbered houses sit low, with foundations built of thick, unshaped sandstone blocks pulled directly from the Neckar. In the seventeen hundreds, this was the heart of the city’s fishing district. Residents tethered their boats right outside their front doors when the river rose. The street stayed flooded often enough that neighbors kept small skiffs moored to iron rings still bolted into the masonry of these house walls.
