Doña Luisa Xicotencatl

The heavy wooden door of the house of Doña Luisa Xicotencatl opens into a quiet courtyard tucked away from the cobblestone streets of Antigua. This residence belonged to the daughter of the Tlaxcalan leader who allied with Spanish forces during the conquest of the region. Doña Luisa married the conquistador Pedro de Alvarado, becoming a central figure in the early colonial power structure. She occupied this space while her husband ventured further into the continent, leaving her to manage the local domestic affairs.
