Casa de los Gigantes

A row of massive, hand-carved wooden heads, each several feet tall, leans against the courtyard walls of Casa de los Gigantes. These figures once paraded through the streets of Antigua during religious festivals, carried on the shoulders of local men to entertain the crowds. Antonio "Tonito" Pineda crafted these giants in the nineteen fifties, creating characters that became neighborhood celebrities. Today, the house preserves these wooden sentinels, keeping the tradition of the processional giants alive within its quiet colonial garden walls.
