Café Condesa

Café Condesa occupies a heavy colonial building with thick, white stucco walls that frame a central open-air courtyard. Built in the late sixteenth century, the structure served as a private residence before the earthquakes of seventeen seventy-three destroyed much of the city. While the upper floors crumbled, the vaulted stone chambers on the ground level remained standing. Owners converted the remains into this space, where tables now sit beneath original arches that have survived centuries of tremors and reconstructions.
