Grái kötturinn sits tucked into a basement level on Hverfisgata, marked by a small, unassuming sign featuring a stylized cat. This cafe occupies a space that once served as a creative incubator for Icelandic writers and musicians. In the nineteen nineties, the author Halldór Laxness held court here while sipping coffee. The low ceilings and cozy, wood-paneled interior remain largely unchanged from those days, preserving the atmosphere where local artists hashed out their manuscripts and songs away from the wind outside.
