Sassoon Dock Clock Tower

historic

The Sassoon Dock Clock Tower stands as a red brick sentinel overlooking the busy fishing harbor. David Sassoon, a wealthy merchant, commissioned the dock in eighteen seventy-five to modernize Mumbai’s trade. His family wanted a facility that could handle large steamships, and the clock tower served as the timekeeper for the laborers and sailors hauling heavy crates of opium and cotton. A rusted, silent clock face still marks the hours for the thousands of Koli fishermen who populate these docks every single day.
