Opened in nineteen thirty-three, it was the first air-conditioned theater in India. Before the building rose, the site served as a government workshop for the British Raj. Karl Schlimme designed the structure, while W. M. Namjoshi oversaw the engineering. Patrons once entered through a basement parking garage, a luxury that signaled a new era of moviegoing in Mumbai.
