Flora Fountain

Flora Fountain stands at the intersection of five major roads in the heart of Mumbai, topped by a carved stone figure of the Roman goddess Flora. This ornate structure is built from Portland stone brought all the way from England in eighteen sixty-four. It commemorates Sir Bartle Frere, the man who oversaw the destruction of the old Fort walls that once restricted the city's growth. The fountain marks the exact spot where the original Church Gate of the walled city stood.
