educational

The J. N. Petit Library holds a distinct presence with its dark, Venetian Gothic stone facade and a series of pointed arches that break up the heavy masonry. Established in eighteen fifty-six, the library began as a collection of books gathered by local residents. Sir Dinshaw Petit later provided the funds to construct this permanent building in eighteen ninety-eight. He dedicated it to his son, and the library has operated as a quiet refuge for researchers and readers ever since.
