Cathedral of the Holy Name

The Cathedral of the Holy Name displays two slender, soaring spires that puncture the skyline of Colaba. Built in nineteen oh five, this structure replaced a smaller chapel to serve as the seat of the Archbishop of Bombay. When the interior was decorated, the artist Antonio Moscheni spent three years painting the walls and ceilings with biblical scenes. He finished the work by lying on his back on high wooden scaffolds, eventually losing his eyesight from the constant strain of looking upward.
