A giant, mechanically animated crab hangs over the street-level entrance of this building. Its massive, spindly legs twitch and rotate periodically, drawing crowds beneath its red-and-white frame. This restaurant, Kani Doraku, opened in nineteen sixty as a pioneer of specialized crab cuisine. The founder, Chuichi Ima, originally operated a small food stall before introducing this concept, which quickly became an Osaka landmark. The moving crab sign arrived later, becoming the iconic mascot that defines the storefront for every visitor today.
