Mitsu Park (Sankaku Triangle Park)

The concrete triangle of Mitsu Park sits wedged between narrow buildings in the middle of Shinsaibashi. Its rusted metal sculpture, shaped like an abstract flame, serves as a meeting point for local youth and shoppers. In the nineteen seventies, this land became the site of a public gathering space intended to bring light into the dense, dark alleys of the district. It earns its nickname, Triangle Park, from the shape of the pavement where the city holds flea markets and impromptu street performances.
