Hozenji Yokocho

Hozenji Yokocho is a narrow stone-paved alleyway tucked between the tall buildings of Dotonbori. It retains an atmosphere from the Edo period, centered around the moss-covered statue of Fudo Myoo at the Hozenji Temple. Local merchants and visitors pour water over the statue as a prayer, covering the stone in layers of thick, green moss. During the firebombing of nineteen forty-five, almost every surrounding structure burned to the ground, yet this small temple and its deity survived the destruction.
