The Horiehonten building features a distinct, curved facade that cuts against the sharp corners of the surrounding city blocks. Built in the nineteen thirties, it served as a textile wholesaler during Osaka's rapid industrial expansion. Merchant families designed these spaces to house their business on the ground floor and their living quarters directly above. The curved wall reflects the personal taste of the original owners, who wanted their shop to stand out from the standardized concrete boxes rising throughout the district at that time.
