The Haw Phra Bang houses the Pha Bang, a sacred gold statue of the Buddha weighing over one hundred pounds. This ornate temple features sweeping, multi-tiered roofs decorated with intricate glass mosaics and gold leaf. The statue itself traveled through centuries of conflict, seized by armies and moved between cities as a symbol of royal legitimacy. It finally returned to this purpose-built pavilion in two thousand six, ending a long period of uncertainty for the relic and its keepers.
