Wat Pa Huak

Wat Pa Huak sits tucked against the base of Phousi Hill, identified by a steep, weathered wooden porch that protrudes toward the street. Built in eighteen sixty-one by a local official named Chao Rajaphakhinai, this small temple served as a private place of worship for the Luang Prabang royalty. Inside, the walls hold detailed murals of daily life in the nineteenth century, showing market vendors and river boats alongside scenes from the life of the Buddha, painted before the city changed forever.
