Vat Souvannakhiri

Wat Souvannakhiri features a distinctive, multi-tiered roof that sweeps low toward the ground, typical of the classic Luang Prabang style. In the nineteenth century, the local royal family commissioned this temple as a dedicated space for religious study and merit-making. While many larger temples in the city served public ceremonies, this site functioned as a quiet enclave for monks to transcribe sacred texts. You can see the intricate gold stenciling on the red wooden walls, which depicts scenes from local folklore.
