The Old French Bridge is a narrow, steel-truss structure spanning the Nam Khan River, painted in distinct, weathered tones of iron oxide. It was built by French colonial engineers during the early twentieth century to connect the town center to the outlying southern districts. During the Laotian Civil War, soldiers dismantled sections of the bridge to hinder enemy movement, leaving it impassable for years. Today, it stands as a pedestrian-only crossing where locals push bicycles across the steel planks every morning.
