The Fuente Inmolación de Quetzalcóatl features a towering, abstract bronze serpent rising from a circular stone basin. Sculptor Manuel Felguérez designed this structure in nineteen eighty-two to honor the mythic deity. Instead of a traditional statue, he crafted interlocking geometric plates that suggest the feathered snake’s form as it emerges from the earth. Local lore holds that the water flowing down the basin represents the transformative sacrifice of the god, shedding his old skin to create the world anew.
