Plaza Tapatía

The Plaza Tapatía stretches as a sprawling, half-mile concrete walkway connecting the Metropolitan Cathedral to the Hospicio Cabañas. Its wide, open corridor slices through the dense urban grid, lined with fountains, bronze sculptures, and modern shops. In the nineteen seventies, planners demolished several blocks of historic colonial housing to carve out this pedestrian expanse. The project intended to modernize the city center, and it left the neighborhood with a wide-open path that prioritizes foot traffic over the cramped streets of the past.
