Rotonda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres

park garden

The Rotonda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres features seventeen fluted stone columns arranged in a perfect circle, open to the sky. Beneath the grass at the center lie the remains of writers, artists, and political leaders from Jalisco. In nineteen fifty-two, Governor Jose Jesus Gonzalez Gallo ordered the construction of this monument to provide a final resting place for the state’s most influential figures. The sculptor Juan Olaguibel designed the columns to hold the ashes of those chosen for this civic honor.
