Plaza de Armas

The iron kiosk at the center of the Plaza de Armas features ornate female figures that serve as pillars, each holding a musical instrument. This pavilion arrived from France in nineteen ten, a gift from Porfirio Diaz to the city during the centennial celebrations of Mexican independence. While the plaza itself has served as the social heart of Guadalajara since the city was founded in the sixteen hundreds, this distinct structure remains the main reason people gather here on summer evenings to hear the local band.
