Puerta de los Leones

Two large bronze lions stand guard at the entrance to Chapultepec Park, casting heavy shadows across the wide stone path. This gateway serves as the primary ceremonial entry to the forest, defined by its iron gates and the flanking feline sculptures. During the presidency of Porfirio Diaz, the government installed these bronze lions to project a sense of European grandeur. They remained in their posts even as the gates became a site of protest and public passage through the city center.
