Diana the Huntress Fountain

The bronze Diana the Huntress stands atop a tall, fluted column, her bow drawn toward the sky. Sculptor Juan Olaguibel modeled the figure after Helvia Martinez Verdayes, a nineteen year old secretary who posed in secret for several months. When the fountain was unveiled in nineteen forty-two, the nudity caused such a public outcry that the sculptor added a bronze loincloth to the statue. Decades later, workers removed the metal covering, finally revealing the sculptor's original design to the city.
