Glorieta del Ahuehuete

The circular traffic island at the intersection of Paseo de la Reforma holds a massive ahuehuete tree, its bare, gray branches standing in stark contrast to the manicured greenery of the surrounding boulevard. This tree replaced the historic Palma de Mallorca that stood here for over a century until its death in twenty twenty-two. City officials planted the new cypress to honor the memory of the trees that once lined the valley floor, connecting the modern capital to its ancient Aztec roots.
