Casa de los Mascarones

The Casa de los Mascarones stands out because of the ornate stone faces that cover its facade, carved in the Churrigueresque style. Count Jose Diego Hurtado de Mendoza y de la Vega commissioned the residence in the late seventeenth century, incorporating these theatrical masks to demonstrate his status. While the building served as a home for wealthy families for generations, it eventually became a venue for the National Preparatory School and later a center for teaching music. The stone faces remain its signature.
