Casa del Monifato

The Casa del Monifato features a carved stone figure of a small, hunched man perched high on the corner of the building facade. Local legend suggests the figure represents a former owner who watched his neighbors with constant suspicion. While the house dates back to the early colonial period, the stone carving turned the property into a local landmark that residents used for decades to give directions through the winding streets of Centro. It remains a rare example of colonial architectural whimsy in Mérida.
