Arch Bridge

The Arch of San Juan in Mérida stands as the tallest of the three remaining colonial gates, built from heavy stone blocks that once marked the southern boundary of the city. Spanish engineers constructed this archway in the late seventeenth century to protect the population during times of unrest. A local legend tells of a soldier who stood guard here every night for years, guarding a passage that led straight to the distant city of Campeche, though the tunnel remains lost to history.
