The rectory Jesus (Third Order)

The Rectory of the Third Order features a facade carved from rough, dark stone that stands out against the smooth, pastel-colored walls of the surrounding streets. This church served as the primary place of worship for the Franciscan Third Order, a lay religious group that operated in colonial Mérida. During the nineteenth century, the building faced partial demolition during political upheavals. Workers eventually repurposed the remaining stones from the original cloister to construct the current sanctuary that occupies the corner today.
