The Centro de Artes Visuales occupies a sprawling, high-ceilinged building on the corner of sixty street. Its facade features long, rhythmic windows shielded by metal shutters, revealing the stone bones of an old colonial residence. This site houses the primary public gallery for contemporary art in Merida. In nineteen ninety-four, the state government converted these former private quarters into a space for exhibitions, workshops, and artist studios, specifically to draw the city’s experimental creative community into the heart of the historic center.
