Palacio de Gobierno del Estado de Yucatán

The Palacio de Gobierno features an arcade of green-painted iron arches that stretches across the entire upper balcony. Built on the foundations of colonial structures in the late nineteenth century, it serves as the administrative seat for the state of Yucatán. During the nineteenth century, Governor Salvador Alvarado used this building to broadcast his radical social reforms. His policies aimed to break the grip of the local landed elite, and he frequently announced these mandates from the central balcony overlooking the plaza.
