Museo Regional de Antropología, Palacio Cantón

The Palacio Cantón stands out for its eclectic facade of white marble and dramatic, sweeping double staircase. General Francisco Cantón Rosado commissioned this mansion in the early twentieth century, hiring architect Manuel G. Cantón to blend French Beaux-Arts style with local Mayan limestone. Cantón, a wealthy cattle rancher and former governor of Yucatán, lived here until his death in nineteen seventeen. His family later sold the home, and it eventually became the Regional Museum of Anthropology, preserving the peninsula's deep history within these ornate walls.
