The Liziyuan Bakery features a bright, utilitarian storefront that breaks from the surrounding historic architecture with its clean, white tiling and oversized glass windows. This shop rose to prominence in Guilin by specializing in the traditional osmanthus-scented cakes that define local flavors. During the mid-nineties, the original owner successfully pivoted the family recipe to scale for the city's growing tourist market while keeping the production process manual. Workers still fold the sweet osmanthus blossoms into the pastry dough by hand.
