Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene

The two towers of the Cathedral of Saint Mary Magdalene are connected by a stone bridge nearly fifty meters above the ground. Locals call this the Bridge of Penitents. Legend says the souls of women who preferred social life to housework are condemned to spend eternity sweeping the walkway. The building dates to the fourteenth century, when it served as the primary parish church for the city’s German-speaking residents, setting it apart from the nearby cathedral which catered to the Polish population.
