The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary features a jagged, asymmetrical silhouette defined by its towering brick spire and elaborate neo-Gothic gables. Built for the Jesuits in the early twentieth century, this structure replaced a medieval chapel on the site. During the final months of the Second World War, the building served as a makeshift infirmary. Father Stefan Świerczek stayed inside to provide final rites to the wounded while Soviet shells pummeled the heavy masonry walls.
