Maria Mill

The Maria Mill is defined by its long, red-brick facade and the heavy, rusted metal equipment still bolted to the concrete base near the entrance. Built in the early twentieth century along the Oder River, this facility processed grain for the growing population of Breslau. In nineteen forty-five, the structure survived the siege of the city with its frame mostly intact while everything around it burned. Millers remained inside the grain silos until the very last moment, protecting the city's food supply during the fighting.
