Przejście Świdnickie

The Przejście Świdnickie is a subterranean concrete circle buried beneath a busy intersection in the heart of Wrocław. Its stark, minimalist design creates a sunken courtyard that stays permanently cut off from the bustle of the street level. In the nineteen seventies, planners carved this space out of the ground to separate pedestrians from the city's heavy traffic. The tunnel once held a notorious underground bar where a local poet named Andrzej Czeczot famously insisted on paying his tab with drawings instead of cash.
