경주 노서동 고분군

Large, grass-covered mounds rise directly among the modern shops and houses of Gyeongju. These are the tombs of kings and nobles from the Silla Kingdom, dating back fifteen hundred years. In the nineteen forties, archaeologists digging into one of these hills discovered a gold crown and a glass cup from the Roman Empire. The cup had traveled thousands of miles across the Silk Road, ending up buried in a wooden chamber beneath the dirt, hidden away for over a millennium.
