Bäckerei Fuchs stands out on the Zermatt streets because of the wooden shutters painted with iconic Matterhorn profiles, framing windows that often fog up from the heat of the ovens inside. This bakery began in nineteen twenty-six, when Alexander Fuchs opened a small shop to serve locals and the earliest waves of mountaineers. His grandson, Reto, eventually took over the family recipe books, keeping the focus on the mountain-shaped chocolate bars and the dark, crusty rye bread traditional to the Valais region.
