The Mont Cervin Palace is marked by its yellow stucco facade and the distinctive red-and-white clock tower that rises above the Zermatt rooftops. Opened in eighteen fifty-two, it began as the Hotel des Alpes, serving the first wave of alpine climbers drawn to the Matterhorn. Alexander Seiler, a young man from the Goms valley, bought the property and transformed it into a luxury destination. He even had his own dairy cows brought up from the valley to ensure guests had fresh cream for their morning coffee.
