The arched stone cellar tucked into the side of the building holds thousands of bottles, but the real story lies in the floorboards under your feet. Before this space housed shelves of Valais wine, it functioned as a traditional mazot, a small wooden granary used by mountain farmers to store rye and dried meat away from mice. The thick, dark timbers still bear the marks of the axes that shaped them centuries ago, long before the first tourists ever arrived in Zermatt.
