Zanzibar Coffee House

other

The Zanzibar Coffee House is the tall, narrow building in Kiponda crowned by a jagged, fortress-like roofline. It occupies a house built in nineteen oh five for the advisor to the Sultan of Zanzibar. While the ground floor now serves coffee and dates, the upper levels retain the original carved wooden doors and high, plaster-walled rooms typical of Omani merchants who once dominated trade here. The coffee house preserves the domestic layout of a home that functioned as a warehouse for cloves and spices.
