Cezayir Sokak

A stone staircase with deep, worn treads climbs steeply between walls of crumbling plaster and bright, overgrown greenery. This narrow passage, known as Cezayir Sokak, bridges the gap between the busy traffic of Beyoğlu and the quiet residential alleys above. In the nineteenth century, French residents carved these steps into the hillside to reach their homes quickly. The street keeps that character today, packed with tables and lanterns that crowd the path from morning until long after the sun goes down.
